THE "LOVE ZONE"
The "love zone" is best described by using the chart below.
To the far left is the credit card company's worst nightmare
-- the "freeloader." Perhaps, you're a freeloader? The
freeloader is a person who uses the card frequently, and,
pays their bill in full every month. Why would the credit
card company hate this customer? The answer is simple; they
can't charge them interest. The freeloader is not
profitable.
At the right end of the scale is the credit card company's
next least favorite customer -- the "deadbeat."■ This is a
customer who has run up charges on their card and then
defaulted, or, in other words, has stopped making regular
payments. But, they still like this customer more than the
freeloader.
Why? Because they can charge late fees, lots of interest,
and, they still have a good chance of getting paid,
eventually. Still, if this person eventually doesn't pay and
is "charged off" (the credit card company's way of giving up
on a debt), they will still have the love zone customers to
help them make their profit.
Now we come to the credit card company's favorite patron --
the "love zone" customer. Are you a love zone customer? To
find out, answer the following questions:
Do you carry an unpaid balance every month
on your credit card account?
Do you make only the minimum required
payment, or, just slightly more than the
minimum required payment each month?
Answer "yes" to these two questions and you are a love zone
customer. Answer yes to both, and, carry an unpaid balance
that is close to your credit limit and you're a preferred
love zone customer! Credit card companies cherish love zone
customers. And they worship preferred love zone customers
because they can systematically drain their financial
freedom, at one and one-half percent interest a month.
